I am horrified to have just discovered that I had 25 unapproved comments in my Admin folder (only three of them spam)—many from writer friends an bloggers whose blogs I frequent. I rely on WordPress to notify me when someone has commented, and when a comment in pending approval, but somehow it hasn’t been doing its job. I changed the admin e-mail address in case that is the problem (although I checked that account and there were no unread messages or messages marked as spam). From now on I’ll check my comments every day to see if there are any pending, but in the meantime, I apologize to all you who commented and who not only didn’t receive a response from me, but whose comments didn’t even post! I’m going to respond to each one right now. An thank you to Molly for pointing this out to me!

  • P.S. I wonder if this has something to do with the fact that I hadn't upgraded my WordPress software yet. All the funky italics that were on my home page this morning are gone now that I've upgraded. does anyone who uses WordPress know how to tell WordPress whether to sen e-mail notifications on comments or not? Is there any thing I can do besides change the e-mail address under Settings?

  • Oy. I had that happen once last year. Not with blog comments but with email. I had FOUR responses from agents in a brand-new email account. FOUR! I wanted to shoot myself. It was an entire month's worth of correspondence. I still don't understand how it happened.

Happy holidays to you and best wishes for 2011. I've got a good feeling about 2011. I really do.

  • Kristen,, I still haven't rectified the problem (oh, and did you notice that my "d" key is broken from all the missing "d"s above? I'm now using a separate keyboard with my laptop, but for five days I was cutting and pasting "d"s.)

Anyway … still not getting e-mail notifications of comments and can't figure out how to fix that. Also, those comments that were pending that I approved – can't find them! I remember a few specifically and have done searches on those people's names and those comments aren't coming up. ARGH! Maybe next year I'll figure it out.

Happy holidays to you. I have a good feeling about 2011, too!
