This morning agent/blogger extraordinaire Nathan Bransford wrote this post about Heifer International and encouraged other bloggers to follow suit:
“You may have already heard of Heifer International, an organization that works to fight hunger by giving needy families around the world and in the United States livestock, training, or other assistance that helps improve their livelihood. Heifer has been recognized for its work in Fast Company and Forbes, among other places.
I know we’re going through tough economic times, but if you have anything to spare this holiday season I hope you’ll consider making a donation. And, in order to encourage people to spread the word, for every comment someone makes in this post between now and 5PM Pacific time, my wife and I will donate 50 cents $1.00*.”
So in the spirit of the winter stolstice, Christmas, Hannukah and Kwanzaa, I too, will donate $1 to Heifer International for every comment people make below by midnight December, 25. So comment away! I’ll probably disappear for the next couple of days, so if you’re celebrating Christmas this year, have a great Christmas and if you’re not, Happy Holidays!
UPDATE: Since I’m a starving artist, I can’t afford a $120 goat, but I’m going to donate $60 for half a goat. Thanks to all those who commented!
One of the nicest things about Heifer International is that the animals go to actual people who need them. (Rather than being converted into funds and sent to Switzerland.)
What a wonderful way to teach compassion and giving. My girls already sent out seeds, trees and a goat with this great organization. (So, no need to donate $1 on our behalf). HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
I love this organization! Happy holidays!
Happy holidays to you and yours!
Great idea! Hope you have a wonderful holiday! 🙂
What great works this organization does!
Anything you do big or small counts. I volunteered through My Moms Group to raise Money to help a 3 year old girl in our Community, Who's fighting brain cáncer. We raised 8,000.00!! Awesome response from our Community considering the though times the Country is going through! To help others it's a feeling you can't explain only by living it… So keep the comments going!
Hey Meghan, thanks visiting my blog and joining in, and have a Happy Holiday.

Meghan, thanks for visiting me and contributing to the beehive for HI. Have a great holiday!
Look, I'm commenting! Please make my donation a goat. I'm a big fan of goats.
Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays, Meghan. 🙂
Happy Holidays, Meghan! And happy donating… 🙂
Great idea–thanks for doing this! I used Charity Navigator to select the charities I list on my site (I give 20% of my royalties to these charities). Check out their site–they make it really easy to find good charities to support: http://www.charitynavigator.org/. (Heifer Project International gets a good rating.)
Glad to help.
As Jacquelyn mentioned, Charity Navigator is a fantastic web site that really helps us find great charities that are spending money appropriately on those they serve.
happy xmas!
Thanks, Jackie and Sierra, for telling me about Charity Navigator. I'd never heard of Heifer International before this either!
Pick a nice goat! Send a picture. 🙂
