Memoir Classes, Litquake, the Writers Grotto, the Nobel Prize, and more

While we’re all getting ready for a Covid Halloween, the impending election, and a possible return to school, the literary world is all ablaze. News this month:

Writing from Your Life

My six-week online memoir class starts in just one week. Take advantage of the pandemic to turn your life stories into pixels. This is a fun class with a combination of craft exercises and work-in-progress submissions with optional Zoom meetings. Work at your own pace…in your pajamas! ENROLL HERE.

Join the Writers Grotto for LitCrawl Saturday, Oct 24, 9:15-9:45 pm to hear Roberto LovatoAnn Kim, and Bonnie Tsui read about the allure, danger, and sensual charms of the night. Hosted by Kevin Smokler and Kristen Cosby. Register here!

The Writers Grotto Leaves South Park

The Writers Grotto is closing the doors to its physical space but not its virtual space. We will continue to offer classes and host literary conferences like Rooted & Written (a conference  for writers of color by writers of color happening this month!) and support each other as writers while working from home until the pandemic is over and we are ready to move into a new space.

MacArthur Genius Grants

Congratulations to authors Jacqueline Woodson, N.K, Jemisin, Cristina Rivera Garza, and 18 others for winning MacArthur Genius Grants this year!

Nobel Prize for Literature

Louise Glück’s books of poetry are about to start selling like hand sanitizer. Congrats to her for winning the 2020 Nobel Prize for Literature. (I haven’t read her work. Have you?)

Happy October!
