Link Love

It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve posted any links, so here are a few that caught my eye. Starting with the heavily anticipated Apple Tablet expected out this March, there is much speculation. According to Apple Insider, Apple filed a patent for a VERY COOL tactile keyboard. The site also reports that Apple has ordered a massive number of 10-inch displays, which contradicts another rumor that the displays will be 7-inches (or will there be both?).

Another Apple Insider post suggests the device will be called iSlate, based on a trademark and a domain name purchase. Yet another post suggests the price will be $600, much lower than the previously rumored $1000. (The price point has been rumored to be anywhere from $500-$1000.) Apple has scheduled a media event at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco on January 26 for a major product announcement. (This is that much more exciting since my husband promised me “an e-reader of my choice” for Christmas. He’d better hope the iSlate doesn’t cost $1000!) According to The Bookseller, the Apple Tablet will be the number one e-reader, with Kindle in second place and the Sony Reader (and nook?) choking in their dust, and the majority of people will eventually own a dedicated e-reading device.

In non-Apple Tablet-related news, this is an older post that I recently came across about the incredibly depressing statistics of getting your book published. Does it deter me? No. Does it depress me. Yes, but I was already depressed about the state of publishing, so not much has changed.

Speaking of older posts, if you don’t read Alan Rinzler’s blog, do. He doesn’t post often, but when he does, his posts are fabulously informative. From his archives, why writers should join Publishers’ Marketplace, choosing a freelance editor, and why videos sell books.

More links coming later this week. Hope everyone is enjoying his/her holiday week!
